Disability Support Worker

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and motivated Disability Support Worker to join our team. We are dedicated to providing high-quality, person-centered care that empowers individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling and independent lives.

Position Summary:

The Disability Support Worker will provide a range of support services to individuals with disabilities, both in their homes and within the community. The role is focused on assisting clients to achieve their personal goals, enhance their daily living skills, and participate in social and recreational activities. This is a rewarding role for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference in people's lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personal Care: Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting as required, always ensuring dignity and privacy.
  • Domestic Assistance: Help with light household tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and shopping to maintain a safe and comfortable living environment.
  • Community Participation: Support clients to engage in community activities, appointments, social outings, and hobbies. This may include transportation, companionship, and guidance.
  • Medication Management: Administer and monitor medication as per a client's support plan and with appropriate training.
  • Mobility Support: Assist with transfers, mobility aids, and safe movement within the home and community.
  • Communication & Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely records of support provided, progress notes, and any incidents or concerns. Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and other members of the support team.
  • Promote Independence: Encourage and empower clients to develop new skills and increase their independence in all aspects of their lives.
  • Adherence to Plans: Follow individual client support plans, health care directives, and company policies and procedures.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
  • A positive and respectful attitude towards all individuals.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, which may include evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or a similar relevant qualification is highly desirable.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or state equivalent.
  • Current Police Check or National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Screening Check.
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
  • Previous experience in a disability support role is preferred but not essential. We welcome applicants who are new to the industry and have a willingness to learn.
